No. Personal locking mailboxes do not need a key to drop off mail, only to recieve it. All USPS approved locking mailboxes require the manufacturer to make a slot for drop off, so even when you aren't there the mail can be dropped.
Mailboxes fit with a postal, or, 'arrow' lock have a universal postal key for the mail carrier and also a seperate lock for customer. These locks are a specialty item and must be approved for our customers by their local post office.
An arrow lock is the post office's lock. This allows the postal carrier access into the body of the mailbox. Usually these locks are used for multiple unit boxes, commercial boxes and some drop boxes. This is a great option for businesses who have alot of mail coming and going, as it allows for secure pick up and delivery. Customers wouldn't have a key to these locks, as it is a universal lock for mail carriers only. However, these units are made to unlock in a seperate area for customer. There are a handfull of mailboxes, mostly commercial models that allow for arrow locks. In order to install one, you must have it approved by your local Post Office, as they do not approve it for every situation. Then the Post Office comes and installs the lock free of charge.
Yes they do. Installation is straight forward on most mailboxes. For more complicated masonry or construction projects you should consult a professional.
Powder coating is the technique of applying dry paint to a part. The final cured coating is the same as a 2-pack wet paint. In normal wet painting such as house paints, the solids are in suspension in a liquid carrier, which must evaporate before the solid paint coating is produced. The part is then placed in an oven and the powder particles melt and coalesce to form a continuous film. It is super durable and allows you to enjoy the finish for years to come. Powder coating is a process that is environmentally friendly.
We have quite a few products that work well for this situation, here are a few: The Lexington mailbox, Pinnacle Plus, Heavy Built Country Estates, All these mailboxes would work beautifully.
Get a locking mailbox right away. Now that you've had to change financial information or get new credit cards, they have to come in the mail. This is a perfect opportunity for a mail thief to strike again.
If you haven't reported the theft, you should call one of the major credit reporting agencies to put a credit watch on your information. You should also keep a close eye on bank statements, utility bills and any other accounts that deal with personal information. Make sure to report this to police as well.
You can bet that if you were hit so were your neighbors. Maybe you could start a neighborhood watch program.
The biggest issue with wallmounts is the opening. These boxes are typically smaller and need a large opening for mail. Take a good look at the specifications for the box to see how big the slot is.
We do have some options that must be post office approved for secure wallmounts. See our Letter locker vertical and horizontal wallmounts for more information.
When you say secure, do you mean from vandalism, theft or both?
Look for a locking mailbox that has a hopper-type (such as Pinnacle or Oasis) or baffled off drop area (such as DVault or Letter locker) or even a box with a long neck (such as Secure Mail Vault). This secures your mail from any one trying to look into your box or trying to reach into it.
Our Lexinton mailbox and Pinnacle Plus mailboxes provide both security through a lock and a tough body to withstand vandalism.
Our Country Estates line of mailboxes offer a super tough body with no lock. These boxes were designed specifically with vandals in mind. The Lexington shares the same body type.
